Travel Theme Challenge: Contrast

Ailsa of Where’s My Backpack‘s challenge for the week is Contrast.

This picture was taken on Fifth Avenue which is the mecca for high end shopping in New York. But what do you know, ambulatory vendors abound too selling knock offs of signature items being sold in the area.

The blanket where they have their goods provides fast get away when the police patrol drives by. They just gather the corners of the blanket and they would ran away only to come back as soon as the police have left.

This reminds me so much of Manila, only in smaller scale. My friend was surprised when I told her we don’t have those in Chicago.

Only in NY Arlene. The bags are LV, Coach, Prada, Gucci, etc., I didn’t really look. They are a big waste of money actually because they don’t look and last long as the original.

That is a true contrast … they have always been around in NY … selling something – fake perfumes .. and what ever. And so true – didn’t see any of this in Chicago. Brilliant choice of photo for the challenge. Have a great weekend now.

Thank you Viveka. I was really surprised to see them there even though I have been told often but then again they have those too in Rome and HongKong.

  7. Street markets are fun and exciting. And I agree, Manila street market is one of the best ones of all.

I love wet markets, I don’t have much patience with dry markets.

Reminds me of the street vendors we have in Nairobi – and the crazy foot chases that inevitably ensue when the City Council askaris arrive.

Yes, am sure it is like that. It is like a cat and mouse game.
