Happy Monday!

Bomba

Bomba

It is raining now. Am so happy I didn’t have to water the plants and they won’t be parched for the day.

Went to pick up the veggies for my friends but despite an umbrella over my head, I still got soaked. I wish I could take pictures but I would be late for work.

Yesterday, Tess introduced us to a Mexican sandwich. The bread, bollilo, was toasted and the sandwich had ham, avocado and cheese. And pickled jalapeno, plenty of it. It was so good! Well after a visit to Savers, got caught in a freight train traffic twice, by the time we got out of there we were both famished.

We looked up the bakery where Tess said she bought the sandwiches she served us, Aracely’s Bake Shop in Franklin Park, ordered them and we also brought home some baked goods. Their magdalenas are great, worth going back for. Of course they tasted like the Mexican cousins of the French madeleines. They are gigantic for so much less. Some bolillos (the Mexican equivalent of French baguettes, bolillos are lighter and shorter) too for sandwiches.

Don’t you just love it when you discover a nice place to go for a light lunch or snack?

Next time I will try their other specialties like epasote and tamales.

Have a great week!

It is a gem of a place, love the bomba sandwich, it is very filling and reasonably priced. Next time, will try the Elotes, the steamed corn dipped in butter, smothered with mayonnaise, hot red paper powder…I had this a while back in the neighborhood Mexican diner, but they closed already. This is sinfully delish! It is a much nicer bakery than the one we have on Cermak.

It rained yesterday but last night the wind must be so strong as my gourd plant was destroyed. So many broken vines. The sandwich was very good Amy, better if toasted. But Viv was asked if she wanted it toasted and she said no, so they didn’t ask me and didn’t toast mine too. Drats!

They bake the bread onsite so it was really fresh. I like their panaderia, it is like a bakery back home. I will go back for the Magdalenas.
