365 Project: Day 22

Even you must be tired by now at looking at my Winter photos. Out of my so many friends, one of my BFF’s actually loves Winter. She told me this morning it is not that bad since this Winter has not reached blizzard proportion. And yes, she could not stand Summer.

For dinner tonight my friend cooked some tenderloin steak. I happened to spot some very fresh looking rapini at the grocery last weekend and I bought a bunch.

Rapini or broccoli raab is one of my favorite greens. It has small flowers that resembles broccoli however the similarity ends there. Rapini has a slightly bitter taste which makes it very unique. It is a rich source of vitamins.

I normally just stir fry it with Italian guanciale or bacon, with garlic, shallots and red pepper flakes. This time since we are having steak wrapped in bacon, I skipped adding any protein and I also squeezed half a lemon after cooking. It went very well with the steak.

It is a very quick side dish to make and flavorful.

perfect for the bacon wrapped fillet mignon, crunchy, a bit bitter but really good. I had it before from the neighborhood Italian deli, quite pricey too.

Lexyleksono, it is. Too bad it is not an Asian vegetable. It tastes like bittermelon although it is not as bitter.

Viv, am glad you liked it. It is good with meat or other fried foods, it sorts of balances the flavors.
